Celebrate Pentecost, 8 June 2014

Posted on ; Filed under News

Pentecost is a feast day commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. It is described in Acts 2: 1-21, which says, in part:

“2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

Pentecost is often called the Birthday of the Church. Please help us celebrate–put on your favorite flame-colored duds and join us at this Sunday’s 10am celebration and post-service coffee hour. The service will include a wind instrument-organ prelude and postlude!

Also, the Episcopal Church (wwww.episcopalchurch.org) invites member churches around the world to submit their photos of their Pentecost celebrations. Their Facebook post says: “Show the world how we celebrate Pentecost! Please plan to submit your colorful Pentecost Sunday pictures with us at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/form/photo-submissions, and we’ll share them here.”

After our service, if we have enough willing folks dressed in reds, oranges, and yellows, perhaps we can get a photo worthy of submission.
