Open Letter from Rev. Clarence, 1/9/23

Dear Members and Friends of St. James,

The Observance of the Baptism of Jesus, as presented in today’s lectionary, portrays actually the state of affairs in our communal life at St. James. The preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth brings each year a hectic pace that demands much output of energy. The Baptism confronts us with the sober reality of the birth of Christ, namely a stepping out into the world of everyday joys and problems. This is my way of alerting you to our ANNUAL MEETING which will take place in February, during which we will assess our response to our mission in 2022 and propose our continued existence in 2023 on the corner of Broadway and Clarendon, in the heart of Teele Square, Somerville. You are urged to convey concerns and aspirations to our wardens and vestry, and as always directly to me.

Of your charity, I bid you pray for our communal life as witnesses to Christ’s Good News. And as we think of ourselves, let us not forget our responsibility to pray for and respond to those in need, at home and abroad.

May the peace of God that passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the love of God and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with you and those whom you love into this new year. Amen.

Your fellow Sojourner in The Way,
