Open Letter from Rev. Clarence, 10/10/21

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. James,

My update this week is brief but brings three important items to your attention:

  • THE VESTRY MEETS ON SUNDAY, 17 OCTOBER, immediately following Eucharist.  You are all invited to attend this meeting as we meet to take stock of the affairs of our parish.
  • This year, we shall celebrate ALL SAINTS ON SUNDAY, 24 OCTOBER.  This is several days in advance of the traditional date which falls mid-week.  Should you wish to have a loved one remembered explicitly by name, please send those names to me or contact Rosemary Parson, who works so diligently to keep our service leaflet up to date.
  • PHISHING: Unscrupulous individuals are hard at work, sending emails, seeking donations in the name of our parish, e.g. to a food pantry or relief due to fire displacement.  I remind you all that under no circumstance will you ever receive an emailed solicitation for funds from me or your wardens.  Requests for donations, e.g. to the Flower Fund in memory of a love one, are made from the pulpit, or in the weekly service leaflet, or via regular mail and bearing my signature and/or that of a warden.  A brief telephone call to me, should you have ever any doubt, will immediately identify any such unauthorized solicitations.

Of your charity, I bid you pray for those, known and unknown to us, afflicted by illness of any sort, as well as for all caregivers and scientific researcher who seek to alleviate and eradicate pain and suffering, both in our nation and abroad.

Let the Collect for the Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost unite us in our calling:
Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

May the peace of God, that passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you, and remain with you and those whom you love, this day and forever more.  Amen.

Your fellow traveler in The Way,
