Open Letter from Rev. Clarence, 12/5/21

Dear Members and Friends of St. James,

As we make our way toward the celebration of the birth of Jesus, God’s Messiah, I report that the dedication of you all, but especially a few select volunteers, has demonstrated a tenacity that a 20-month absence due to COVID restrictions could not, and did not, weaken. Wreathes of Advent hang on our exterior doors, to be joined after Eucharist on the Fourth Sunday in Advent, by interior one in the greening of our sanctuary. Daylight hours may have decreased, but not the commitment to ministry and mission in Teele Square, which continues to shine through.

It is my intention to post a Christmas Invitation and Greetings to both our regular attendees, but also to those whose attendance is hindered by various reasons. Be, please, assured that we continue to exercise all caution, as proscribed by our diocese, to mitigate against transmission of the coronavirus. In the meantime, you may wish to mark your calendar for Christmas Eve for our TRADITIONAL CONGREGATIONAL CAROL SING at 6:30 p.m., and the celebration of HOLY EUCHARIST at 7:00 p.m. Invite a member of the family, a friend or neighbor, that they may join with us, led by organ, violin and cantor, in making a joyful noise to recall the birth of our Redeemer.

A financial note is also appropriate. A reminder: in order to plan a realistic budget for 2022, the wardens and I thank those of you who have already indicated a pledge for the new budget year, and remind you, should it have slipped your memory, that pledges are still accepted. And on the topic of financial support, the Altar Guild is still accepting donations toward the cost of greening the church. This is a time honored means of giving thanks for blessings, as well as to recall those who have passed on into eternity.

Of your charity I bid you pray for those in research laboratories and our hospitals and for first responders who place themselves on the frontlines of challenging service.

Let the Collect for the Second Sunday in Advent unite us all:
Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we many greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

May the peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you, and those whom you love, for ever. Amen.

Your fellow traveler on the Way,
CEB
