St. James Book Club: The Bookseller of Kabul, 7/25/18

We had a fabulous, lively discussion of Mrs. Caliban when last we met (although one of us couldn’t get beyond the first chapter). We thought the book was strange and intriguing and thought-provoking. Question: Which movie is more closely based on the book–The Shape of Water, or The Creature from the Black Lagoon?

Below, find information from Amazon about our next book, The Bookseller of Kabul. As always, you can borrow book club reads (typically available in several formats) from your local library (or follow this local library link), or purchase them from your local independent book store, or on-line from sites such as Amazon, where they are doubtless available in a variety of formats and editions.
Join us next time at 1170 Broadway, 7-8pm on Wednesday, July 25th. Enter through the side door on Clarendon. NOTE: this is a week later than originally announced.

From Amazon:

“This mesmerizing portrait of a proud man who, through three decades and successive repressive regimes, heroically braved persecution to bring books to the people of Kabul has elicited extraordinary praise throughout the world and become a phenomenal international bestseller. The Bookseller of Kabul is startling in its intimacy and its details – a revelation of the plight of Afghan women and a window into the surprising realities of daily life in today’s Afghanistan.”

Reminder: All are welcome! The only membership requirement is that you show up.
